The village of Maumont offers many walks, but one of our favourite is around the
small lakes in the valley below which often provides a glimpse of the local wildlife. Hautefort and its majestic chateau enchants visitors with it’s cobbled streets, winding steps, beautiful gardens and breathtaking panoramic views. The town also has a museum of medicine, supermarket with petrol station, bakery, chemist, medical centre, 5 restaurants, bar, gift shops and a garage.
Tourtoirac a neighbouring village is a great place to have a picnic by the river,and visit its underground caves and Benedictine abbey.
Other places: Sarlat and it’s famous Saturday market, Montignac and the Lascaux cave with its world renowned paintings, Terrasson’s old town, The Byzantium cathedral and Roman ruins at Perigueux, Chateau de Castlelnaud with its machines of war and Brantome also known as the Venice of the North to mention a few of many! No matter what your taste the Dordogne has something for everyone.
